This notice provides transparent information about how artificial intelligence was used in the creation and operation of the Standing on History website. We believe in clear disclosure so that visitors understand where AI assisted in the author's website creation work.

## Purpose of This Site

Standing on History is a public-interest project presenting a collection of curated historical facts about New York City subway stations, designed for digital signage and civic engagement. The research was funded by a Temple University CARAS student grant.

## AI Systems Used for This Website

### Website Development

This website was built using Lovable, an AI-powered web development platform. Lovable uses large language models (including Claude by Anthropic) to generate and modify front-end code (React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS) based on natural-language prompts from the project creator.

### Image Generation

Decorative texture images used on station pages and the hero section were generated using AI image models (Flux by Black Forest Labs) through Lovable's built-in image generation tools.

### Content Writing Assistance

Lovable AI writing tools used a human-led copy deck to refine copy for clarity and concision. All factual content was originated from primary archival research conducted by the project creator.

## What AI Did Not Do

Research: All 100 station facts were identified through original archival research, not generated by AI. Source(s) for each station fact are noted below each fact on the Stations page. A subset of researched facts are presented on this site.

Station Selection: Stations were selected by the project creator based on defined criteria: high ridership, pre-1930 construction, breadth of historical fact types, and visible in-station connections.

Photography and Ads: Website photos credit sources and/or photographer. LinkNYC deployment ads are images of the actual visuals.

## Data Usage

## Known Biases and Limitations

AI-generated code: Code produced by Lovable may reflect patterns and conventions from its training data. All generated code was reviewed and approved by the project creator.

AI-generated images: Decorative textures were generated by AI and are not historical photographs. They are clearly used as background design elements, not documentary imagery.

## Human Oversight

All content, design decisions, and code were reviewed and approved by the project creator. AI was used as a tool to accelerate development, not as an autonomous decision-maker. Every historical fact was verified against cited sources before publication.

## Continuous Improvement

This notice will be updated as the project evolves. If AI usage changes, for example if AI-assisted fact-checking or content generation is introduced, this page will be revised accordingly.
